Are you looking for a wake sports boat? The 2022 MasterCraft XStar S brings you a package dedicated to wakesurfing, with everything you need to enjoy hours of fun towing your friends around the lake or river.

The 2022 MasterCraft XStar S is a great choice for a premium sports vessel, featuring an innovative design, plenty of power, and beautiful aesthetics.

Design Overview

The sports-specific design of the Mastercraft XStar S makes it ideal for wake sports enthusiasts. This boat comes with an award-winning design, and it’s a top choice for wake sports competitors.

With a 23-foot length, this boat can accommodate your friends out on the water, and you get a customizable wake with the Gen 2 Surf System. There are pre-programmed rider profiles for easy reference and a set of customizable accessories and options.

Engines

The 2022 MasterCraft XStar S gets its power from an Ilmor 6.2L engine built by this legendary race-car motor manufacturer. The powerful motor delivers 430-HP, featuring direct fuel injection for instant power response.

You also have the option of upgrading the engine to the Ilmor 7.4L, bringing you 522-HP and 70% fewer emissions than competitor motors of the same capacity. The V-drive configuration of the motor is ideal for producing the largest wakes for riders.

Hull and Ballast

The 2022 MasterCraft XStar S features a new hull design similar to the XT24, providing better results with wake production. The standout feature is the Mastercraft Gen2 Surf System, giving you the ability to customize the wake size and shape to suit your riding style.

The 2022 MasterCraft XStar S hull features a unique design, with a deep V-shape for ultimate control and stability and two pontoon-like side beams, offering you unparalleled wake production and shaping.

The port and starboard wake tabs on the stern extend 26-inches into the water, allowing for an astounding 1,656 different wake sizes and shapes. You get factory presets installed with purchase and options for “mellow right,” “mellow left,” “steep right,” or “steep left” wake waves.

Play around with the settings and store your favorites under your unique rider profile if you want a custom setup. The Gen2 Surf System produces a “J-shaped” wake, helping riders get back into the sweet spot after falling behind.

The XStar comes with an impressive 4,100-gallon adjustable ballast, with four solid tanks hidden away under the aft flooring. The forward tank holds an 820-gallon capacity, 740-gallons in the mid-deck, and 1,270 gallons in each of the stern and aft blasts, offering you a colossal 4,300-gallons total.

Interior, Seating, and Deck

The 2022 MasterCraft XStar S comes with seating to comfortably fit 16 passengers and a 102-inch width. You get seating in the bow and midship of the boat, with optional flip-up rear-facing backrests on the rear seats for a relaxing view of the rider.

The optional rear reversible seat in the center allows a rear-facing view for two people in the aft. Flip the seat up for a recliner, or lay it flat for a bench to extend the rear lounge area. You get two upholstery options featuring CoolFeel vinyl fabric to keep the seats cool when they’re in the direct sunlight.

The bow seating features a standard cutout configuration with options available to create a playpen-style seating configuration in the bow. You have three flooring options, with choices for standard flat carpeting, SeaDek closed-cell foam, or Deckadance synthetic PVC carpets.

The helm features a dual-screen digital dashboard, with options for the standard 4.3-inch video screen or a chance to upgrade to a 7-inch screen. The dual-screen dash features digital dials, with the touchscreen to the right of the padded steering wheel.

The XStar comes with a manual control panel to the far-right of the console, with adjustment tabs for your stereo system volume and mute, as well as tab position adjustment, blast configurations, navigation and anchoring lights, engine speed and information, camera view, media source, and navigation map.

The touchscreen allows for rider mode selection, with drive, chill, tow, surf, and wakeboard modes. We like the “Autolaunch” controls, which help the boat get to planning speed faster. Drive mode offers you settings for media, maps, lighting, switches for the bilge and seat heater, and others.

The helm offers you a captain swivel seat with plush padding, a tilting steering wheel, a phone holder under the dash, and a small cubby to the left of the wheel. There are USB and 12-volt charging ports positioned conveniently for easy driver access.

The XStar S comes with the options for a wraparound dash or a shorter, non-wraparound style. You get a Klipsch audio system as standard, with waterproof speakers. The audio cans vary in number, depending on the tower you choose for the boat. There’s also an option for installing subwoofers under the passenger seats.

You also have options for fitting an audio control pad on the swim platform and the observer seat. If you want the best wakeboarding and wakesurfing experience possible, we recommend going for the top-of-the-line ZFT7 tower for your Mastercraft XStar S.

The ZFT7 features audio pods or cans mounted to the tower, featuring design and construction with lightweight aluminum. The tower includes standard board racks with clamps and options for Surf/Surf, Wake/Wake, or Wake/Surf rack configurations.

Pricing

The flagship 2022 MasterCraft XStar S comes with a mid-to-top-level pricing tier, starting at $194,000. However, there are plenty of optional upgrades and accessories to add to the boat, and it’s not hard to end up with the boat costing close to the $250,000 mark with all the bells and whistles included.

Additional Features

The 2022 MasterCraft XStar S comes with one of the most impressive ranges of optional extras. Kit your boat out to your personal preference and needs. You have two options for standard accessory packages.

The Saltwater Package

Taking the saltwater upgrade package for your boat adds strategic reinforcement to the hull with rugged stringers. You get treatment for corrosion resistance, hydraulic steering, sacrificial anodes, and closed-loop cooling for the motor.

Dockstar Handling Package

The Dockstar Handling package for the 2022 MasterCraft XStar S provides an impressive upgrade to the handling. For situations like docking the vessel in the slip, you get precise steering with additional rudders to deflect the prop wash.

Some of the additional optional extras available for your XStar S include the following.

  • Docking lighting
  • Speaker ring lighting
  • Underwater lighting
  • Transom rear lighting.
  • Rear center flip-up seat.
  • Removable ski tower.
  • Fastfill ballast pump.
  • Bow-filler cushions.
  • Heated seating.
  • Transom stereo control.
  • Observer stereo control.
  • Accent lights.
  • Hydraulic seat lifts.
  • Dual-battery setup.
  • Starboard pop-up seatbacks.
  • Sun pad flip-seating.
  • Bow and aft sunshades.

2022 MasterCraft XStar S – The Verdict

Overall, the 2022 MasterCraft XStar S is a great choice at the premium end of the market. However, if you’re looking for a dedicated wake sports boat, it’s a great option at this price point.

The range of electronic adjustments for tabs and ballast settings, along with the customizable driving modes, really make this model a standout compared to past MasterCraft models. If you’re a wake sports enthusiast, this boat is a great deal, and it’s excellent value for money.
